What changes overnight
Less friction
Cotton catches hair and tugs it every time you turn over. A smoother surface lets it move with you instead.
Less breakage
Most of the damage to long hair is mechanical. Take the drag away and there is less snapping at the mid-lengths.
Less frizz
Waking up with a flattened, staticky side is friction. This is the part you notice first.

The material
Satin is a weave. Silk is a fiber.
Most pillowcases sold as silk are not silk. Here is what the words on the label actually mean.
- Satin
- Satin describes how the threads are crossed, and it can be woven from polyester, nylon or silk. A twenty dollar satin pillowcase is polyester in a satin weave. It is smooth, and it is plastic.
- Silk
- Silk is one continuous filament spun by the silkworm, where cotton is millions of short fibers with an end sticking out of every one. Fewer ends at the surface is the whole argument.
- Mulberry, 6A
- 6A grades the raw filament on length and uniformity, from 2A up to 6A. 6A is the longest and most even, which is what a smooth, even weave needs in the first place.

Momme is how silk is weighed: the weight in pounds of a hundred yards of silk forty five inches wide. Heavier silk is denser, drapes better and survives more washes. Nineteen is the usual grade for bedding. Yours is twenty two.

Questions
Before you buy.
Will it fit my pillow?
It is a standard case, 20 × 26in, which is the size most bed pillows sold in the US are made to. It fits a standard pillow properly and will still go over a queen pillow, just more snugly.
Silk is meant to sit loose rather than stretched, so if yours is a firm or oversized pillow, expect it to hug rather than drape.
Is this the same as a satin pillowcase?
No. Satin is a weave, and most satin pillowcases are polyester woven that way. Silk is the fiber. This one is 22 momme, 6A mulberry silk on both sides, not silk on the front and something cheaper on the back.
How do I wash it?
Machine wash cold on a delicate cycle, on its own or in a mesh bag, with a mild detergent that has no bleach and no enzymes. Hang it or lay it flat to dry.
No tumble dryer and no iron. Heat is what dulls silk.
Will it stay on the pillow?
It closes with an envelope flap, so the pillow tucks in behind a fold of silk and stays there. No zip and no buttons, which means no hardware anywhere near your face.
What does it actually do?
It changes what your hair rubs against for the third of your life you spend lying on it. Less friction means less breakage, less snagging and less frizz in the morning.
That is the whole claim. It is a pillowcase, not a treatment, and it will not grow hair or stop hair loss.
